The little greenhouse that could fly

Who here hasn’t dreamt of a beautiful greenhouse, something Pinterest- and swoon-worthy…

Neither of us has space for one in our own gardens and the allotment doesn’t allow for permanent structures, but a small greenhouse that could easily be put up or taken down as needed? That was certainly an option.

So we got one and put it up.

The greenhouse amidst tall grasses and on an unkempt plot...

And then a storm came and in the gardening app group, someone shared a picture of our little greenhouse that had flown into the hedges.

Crash-landed in the hedges…

So we went and put it back up again.

And a few days later, it decided that it liked flying so much last time, it would do it again. The couple with the plot next to ours was so kind as to rescue it from out of the hedge this time, since they live a lot closer to the allotment than either one of us.

Trying out a different spot yet again…

Clearly, our greenhouse was not particularly inclined to stay put.

Someone in the gardening app group suggested bamboo stakes driven into the ground and secured to the poles of the greenhouse. We got some tent stakes and groundcover stakes as well and attached the greenhouse at various points.

It has not gone flying since.

The morale of the story? While some greenhouses can fly, with a little help and ingenuity, you can get them to stay put as well.
